Colorado National Monument
117 Meilen von Moab und dem Arches National Park und 15 Meilen von Grand Junction entfernt liegt das Colorado National Monument. Wir waren 2007 auf einer einwöchigen Colorado-Tour dort. Vom westlichen Parkeingang (2 Meilen von Fruita entfernt) führt der asphaltierte Rim Rock Drive über 23 Meilen am Canyonrand entlang und bietet von zahlreichen Aussichtspunkten eindrucksvolle Einblicke in die Canyons. Zunächst geht es in Serpentinen 600 Höhenmeter auf das Plateau, welches ca. 2.100 Meter hoch gelegen ist.
Es fasziniert uns immer wieder, was Wasser Wind und Frost alles bewirken können. Die Kräfte der Natur haben hier über Jahrmillionen diese wunderschöne Landschaft geschaffen, die mit turmartigen Sandsteinformationen und tiefen Canyons begeistert.
