Yellowstone National Park
Im gesamten Yellowstone National Park verursachen sogenannte Thermophile (wärmeliebende Organismen) die bunten Färbungen, die in den Geysirgebieten zu bewundern sind. In der Old Faithful Area sind es hauptsächlich Cyanobakterien (Blaualgen), welche in Temeparturen von bis zu 73 Grad Celcius gedeihen. Manche Thermophile können sogar noch höhere Temperaturen aushalten.
